1. Expert Systems: Knowledge and "intelligence" based models and tools that capture the relationship between the product being created and the system/processes required to create this product. 

2. Simulation modeling: Computer based models that mimic an existing or "in design" system with the objective of analysis and design. Extensive integration of expert system and operation research techniques into simulation models allow for the analysis of highly complex and dynamic problems. 

3. Supply Chain modeling: Frameworks, models and tools that capture the complexity and dynamic nature of the customer driven procurement-production-delivery cycle.
